Post 1108 would like to help them reach their goal.

Voice of Democracy (VOD for short) is an audio essay

contest held annually. This year’s theme is

"Why Veterans are Important to our Nation's History and Future".

The original recording must be 3-5 minutes on a standard cassette tape or audio CD.

Also-Calling on all members and/or teachers who know 6th, 7th

or 8th Graders - that would be interested in participating in

Patriot's Pen Essay Contest for 2014.

Students can be in public, private or home schooled and must

be residents of Indiana. This year’s topic is

"Why I Appreciate America's Veterans."

Essay must be original and 300-400 typewritten words in length

(Title/Theme or added footnotes do not count).

Please submit Essay to VFW Post 1108,

Attn: Cheryl Brown before Oct 20, 2014. We welcome Teachers and other educators that would like to make this a class project. Local winners will progress to District Judging and have the

potential to go on to State and National judging. For more Information, Entry Form and official rules

As the Government continues its base closings and other cutbacks, another promise to Veteran’s runs the risk of extinction, the Military funeral. Active duty personnel cannot possibly keep up with the alarming rate that Veterans are passing away. The only way that all of the Veterans will receive a proper Military service upon their demise is through the various volunteer groups such as the Wayne County Honor Guard. A proper service consists of 11 people. At this time of year, especially with

vacations, illness, etc., we are often left shorthanded. If anyone is

interested in helping us with our ceremonies, please contact Jim Hall at

(765) 462-8532.

God Bless Our Vets!

Thanks,

 Jim Hall
