It’s definitely summer time now and will be so for a while.
We are planning to have our Labor Day picnic at the post again and hope to see you all there.
The air conditioning at the Post is working great so in-between vacations and BBQs stop in and say hello!

Do you know a 9th through 12th grader (private, public or home schooled) who is looking for money to attend college?
Post 1108 would like to help them reach their goal.
Voice of Democracy (VOD for short) is an audio essay
contest held annually. This year’s theme is
"Why Veterans are Important to our Nation's History and Future".
The original recording must be 3-5 minutes on a standard cassette tape or audio CD.
Also-Calling on all members and/or teachers who know 6th, 7th
or 8th Graders - that would be interested in participating in
Patriot's Pen Essay Contest for 2014.
Students can be in public, private or home schooled and must
be residents of Indiana. This year’s topic is
"Why I Appreciate America's Veterans."
Essay must be original and 300-400 typewritten words in length
(Title/Theme or added footnotes do not count).
Please submit Essay to VFW Post 1108,
Attn: Cheryl Brown before Oct 20, 2014. We welcome Teachers and other educators that would like to make this a class project. Local winners will progress to District Judging and have the

As the Government continues its base closings and other cutbacks, another promise to Veteran’s runs the risk of extinction, the Military funeral. Active duty personnel cannot possibly keep up with the alarming rate that Veterans are passing away. The only way that all of the Veterans will receive a proper Military service upon their demise is through the various volunteer groups such as the Wayne County Honor Guard. A proper service consists of 11 people. At this time of year, especially with
vacations, illness, etc., we are often left shorthanded. If anyone is
interested in helping us with our ceremonies, please contact Jim Hall at

EVERY SATURDAY MORNING DURING BREAKFAST (7-10 AM)
2ND, 3RD, AND 4TH SATURDAYS (ALL DAY)

We need volunteers to help with taping of "Proudly We Served" at the Veterans Memorial Park. This program has been very good for all the Veterans of Wayne County.
