April Commanders Notes
I would like to encourage all Post members to join us this month for our Post meeting on April 7th at 7pm. We will be holding 2nd nominations and elections for Post Officers during this meeting. If you are interested in holding a Post office we have copies of the duties and obligations available at the Post, please be sure to review these before taking an office. Please note, due to a resolution that passed at our last meeting there will be no speeches or commentary by or for any candidate during elections so if you want to know more about the candidates and their agendas please make every effort to do so before the elections. Many of our current officers and candidates for office attend the House Committee meeting every Wednesday at 10 a.m., this would be a great time to stop in and learn more about the offices and candidates running for them. As always, any Post member in good standing is welcome to join us for these meetings. The monthly Post meetings are always on the 1st Thursday of the Month at 7 p.m. The more participation we have at our meetings creates the best results for everyone. Our VFW Buddy Poppy Day will be held on Saturday April the 30th this year. We will be at multiple locations throughout Richmond and can use all the help we can get. There will be a sign-up sheet with times and locations at the Post. Buddy Poppy is a core program of the VFW and as such, we should make every effort to inform everyone what it’s all about. Last year we set an amazing standard that I hope we can surpass if not double. VFW Buddy Poppies are assembled by needy and disabled Veterans who are compensated for their work, we then distribute them and accept donations that go directly to our Relief Fund to be used for Veterans relief purposes. No donations are required as the Poppy itself has its own meaning. It represents the bloodshed by American service members and sacrifices they have made that we should never forget. Wear your Poppy proudly and share the story with others so they will too. Thomas Owens, Post Commander
PLEASE NOTE: Fundraiser Italian Spaghetti & Meatball Dinner on Saturday, April 23rd from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. will be prepared by Post Officers and proceeds will go towards a future Post Project.

Visit a Veteran in a nursing home
Every Tuesday in May at 5:15
3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th & 31st
Come join Al Bledsoe in visits to our brothers and sisters who are in nursing homes in and around Richmond.
Just think what seeing a friendly face could mean to some of the Veterans who don’t have any family in the area visiting them or even some of them that do have family.
Check out the board at the Post to see how many are in nursing homes and may never get to go home again.
Think about how you might feel if you were laying there in a bed all day with no one to talk to that you have known outside the nursing home!
let's make a difference!
